The Annual Skate Comp

Stay tuned for details about the 2023 Skate Comp!

BYTE is proud to have played a role in hosting the annual “Skate Comp” for over 15 years! This event is typically held on July 1st. In the skate competition there are multiple divisions depending on age and gender categories where people can display their skills on skateboards. In recent years we’ve branched out to bring programming to the communities to serve rural youth.

We are fortunate to get to work with other community organizations and partners to organize an all-ages skateboarding competition. They are passionate about reducing barriers, helping young women and non-binary folks getting into the sport. We have received an overwhelming amount of support and great feedback from parents and community members after each event and we look forward to hosting many more skate comps in the years to come.

This year’s competition went off without a hitch! As usual, the rain gave us a bit of a scare, but we were able to go ahead with things according to plan. Shout out to our amazing MC, judge and mentor, Graydon, who did it all so gracefully! He did a great job hyping kids up at the school in Carcross, mentoring all the youth who showed up at the skate park, and kept things running smoothly throughout the afternoon! We also wouldn’t have been able to have such a great turnout this year without the support of the folks from Wonderhorse Emerging Arts & Music Festival, who also were able to organize amazing music artists for the afternoon.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without support from our sponsors: The Franchise, Carcross Tagish First Nation, Northwestel, Singletrack to Success, Mount Sima, Caribou Crossing Coffee, Alligator’s Grilled Cheese, Triple J’s Collective and Yukon Art + Craft.

Thank You Sponsors!
