Skate Comp 2023 is officially over!
In 2023, Skate Comp took place on September 3 from 11-4 PM at the Whitehorse Skate Park as part of the Wonderhorse Emerging Arts & Music Festival. We had 10 youth compete in 3 categories (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced). Our free community BBQ served over 100 community members. We also had a DJ workshop and awesome Wonderhorse performances after the comp from Punching Knives and Crawl Space. Thank you to everyone who made the comp possible!
About Skate Comp
BYTE is proud to have played a role in hosting the annual “Skate Comp” for roughly 20 years! In the skate competition there are multiple divisions depending on age and gender categories where people can display their skills on skateboards. In recent years we’ve branched out to bring programming to the communities to serve rural youth.
We are fortunate to get to work with other community organizations and partners to organize an all-ages skateboarding competition. They are passionate about reducing barriers, helping young women and non-binary folks getting into the sport. We have received an overwhelming amount of support and great feedback from parents and community members after each event and we look forward to hosting many more skate comps in the years to come.
