MOVE! is a youth-led and run movement to end violence in the Yukon. It’s a group of youth leaders who understand how violence affects their community and are moving to create change by sharing their own talents, skills, and knowledge in – art, music, sports, writing and film. It’s a multimedia and role model program for school going youth who want to make a difference in their community and work with other youth to end violence. Last year the group created this incredible video from scratch.
We want you!
MOVE! training in multimedia and violence prevention will take place over 5 workshops between 4pm and 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from November 5th – 19th 2013 at the BYTE office. Topics include: Leadership and Anti-oppression, Gender and Equality, Healthy Relationships, Sexuality and Consent and multimedia. Through this program, youth will learn the skills needed to apply this thinking to the real world, and become role models for other young men and women.
As MOVE! role models, youth will connect with Yukon leaders in justice, social work, and advocacy; and gain technical skills in radio, podcasts, video making, photography, and blogging. Food will be provided, and youth will receive a $150 honorarium following the completion of the five workshops.Youth who complete the training will also be eligible for future opportunities to travel within Whitehorse and to rural communities to meet with other youth. In addition to the honorarium, they will also receive a certificate of completion, and a reference for future scholastic and work opportunities.
