Drumroll, please! The lineup for this year’s Battle of the Bands on January 31st has been decided. We were overwhelmed with so many amazing submissions this year and had some tough decisions to make, but we’re confident that this year’s lineup is going to blow you away! It just goes to show that the music scene among Yukon youth is bumping, and Battle of the Bands is your chance to see what it’s all about.
This year’s lineup is:
- Dead Simple
- Solid Fuel
- MC Turmoil and Super Daver
- 86 YounGunz
- DJ Botfly
- Isaiah
- The Midnight Sons
Dead Simple is a group of four 17-year-old friends who have been creating high-energy rock songs together since 2011. This year will be their third year playing at the Battle of the Bands, and this time, they’re going for the win.

Solid Fuel have also played in Battle of the Bands before, and have been working to refine their punk rock sounds to what’s sure to be a wildly enthusiastic audience. They’ve performed at Frog Mountain Music Festival and CHOICES Youth Conference before, and are excited to bring their songs to the Battle of the Bands stage again this year.
86 YounGunz are a trio of hip-hop / rap artists who are passionate about hip-hop culture and history. The members came from Beaver Creek, Haines Junction, and Watson Lake originally, but have been making tracks out of Whitehorse. They hope to follow in the steps of Vision Quest.
DJ Botfly is a 22-year-old producer from Watson Lake, and he’ll be bringing an electro-house/dubstep sound to the event. He’s currently working on releasing an EP, and his high-energy mixes will have the crowd jumping.

MC Turmoil and Super Daver make hip-hop with a distinctly Yukon flavour. For them, rap is something they use to express themselves. Using their lives, emotions, opinions and experiences as inspiration, MC Turmoil and Super Daver are huge contributors to the Yukon hip-hop scene.

Isaiah is a pop-punk band that formed after Typhoon Haiyan to perform at Whitehorse’s fundraising event. They’ve been practicing together and gaining popularity ever since.
You might recognize The Midnight Sons from their weekly gig at the Dirty Northern on Wednesday nights. Their soulful lyrics, melodic guitar picking, and rustic feel aren’t easy to forget—and neither are their songs, once you’ve heard them.
And that’s not all! Headliners Soda Pony and Vision Quest will play as well, with Soda Pony kicking off the event at 7pm, and Vision Quest sending us all off at the end of the night after the winners have been announced.
Tickets to Battle of the Bands are $10 and will be available at the door. Doors open at 6:30, and Soda Pony starts at 7.
Hope to see you all there!
