Job Description/Duties:
BYTE’s Community Outreach Co-ordinator is responsible for the promotion, organization, implementation, and facilitation of BYTE’s youth workshops. Workshops are presented in both rural and urban communities in the Yukon, and some in northern BC and NWT. Additionally, the position entails recruiting and supervising an on-call youth facilitation team; managing workshop budgets; initiating and maintaining contact with youth-serving organizations; collecting data and writing summarizing reports on workshops; researching and distributing National and Global opportunities for Yukon youth; assisting in the development and implementation of youth events; representing BYTE in the media, at public information booths, and at youth-networking meetings; promoting BYTE’s Youth Advisory Committee; contributing to daily office operations such as answering the phone, faxing, photocopying, responding to public inquiries etc.; ensuring a clean work environment; and maintaining BYTE’s Green Office policy.
Note: Mandatory travel in Northern Communities, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Successful completion of post-secondary schooling combined with experience in facilitating workshops; valid drivers license; a strong rapport with youth and genuine interest in youth issues; ability to work independently and very well in a team setting; ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends; proficient in basic computer and internet programs such as Word and Excel; familiarity of BYTE and its work in the Yukon; familiarity of Yukon’s First Nations; willing to work in and encourage an inclusive and non-discriminatory work environment; very good inter-personal skills; ability to work with minimal supervision. An RCMP Criminal Record Check will be required. Experience in events development, project management, supervising staff and project budgeting are also desirable.
