“Okay, Cheese!” I say as I take a picture of affordable housing. “1, 2, 3, Smile” before I snap a shot of late night bus service. “Ready? Say Granny’s underpants” I joke as I photograph more arts funding. In each of these photos there is a smiling youth holding up our Whitehorse Youth Want… whiteboard — they’ve written down the most important issue in Whitehorse for them.

Because the City of Whitehorse municipal elections are just around the corner, BYTE has launched a new social media campaign called: Whitehorse Youth Want…  (Click the link for more info!) We are asking youth to write down what’s most important to them and what they want the new city council to address. We’ve documented these statements in pictures. So far BYTE has collected an array of smiles and issues. Have a look at the diversity here!

The City of Whitehorse municipal elections are coming up soon! On October 18th polls will open for city residents to cast their ballots for a new mayor and council. The goal of the Whitehorse Youth Want… campaign is to publicize youth issues, encourage young people to vote, and provide information about voter registration and polling stations.

BYTE staff will be around town with our handy Whitehorse Youth Want… whiteboard and our camera but if you are a youth and would like to make sure you get your photo taken, feel free to stop by our office for a photo shoot. Or if you are simply looking for information on how to register to vote, where you can vote, or how to find out about the candidates go to www.yukonyouth.com/vote.
