Last week, BYTE was awarded an “honourable mention†at the prestigious Canadian Race Relations Foundation’s (CRRF) Awards of Excellence held in Halifax Nova Scotia.
Up against a number of high calibre organisations from around the country, BYTE was recognized in the Youth Sector category for our Community Outreach Program. This is our work with youth in rural communities throughout Canada’s north, and includes workshops on anti-oppression, anti-bullying and the right to live in a world free from discrimination. We work with youth in rural communities that often lack support, funding and programming.

BYTE’s ED, Chris Rider, proudly holds the award at the BYTE office!
The CRRF Award of Excellence is a national program that recognizes public, private or voluntary organizations whose efforts represent excellence and innovation in combating racism in Canada. We believe that we’re the only organization from Canada’s north to be recognized at these awards, so we consider it a huge honour on behalf of not only ourselves, but all the amazing communities throughout the Yukon.
BYTE was only beaten to the top honour by “Equitasâ€, a much larger international human rights organization based in Montreal.
We’d like to thank our good friends at Air North for helping us get to Halifax to accept the award!
