IMG_1131A big thank you to everyone who came out to our Annual General Meeting today. We had a great turnout: board members, facilitators, new and old staff, and even one the founding members of BYTE. Our Executive Director, Chris, led the group through a colourful presentation of BYTE’s accomplishments during the past year.  We even grilled lunch outside in the sunshine.

Some of highlights from the year include:

  • Boosting our number of workshops to 25, compared to 14 in the previous year.
  • Taking over the Purple Bikes Project, in collaboration with the Boys and Girls club and Phillipe Leblonde.
  • Visiting Fort Mcpherson for the first time, and having the opportunity to travel to Atlin for workshops a total of six times.
  • Hosting an incredibly awesome Battle of the Bands.
  • Starting the Leaders in Training program where rural youth learn how to be facilitators in their own communities.

We’d like to welcome Scott Carlson and Shaea Newnham, our newest board members. Scott worked most recently as our Community Outreach Coordinator and we know his expertise and general wonderfulness will be a great asset to our team.  Shaea Newnham works with youth through the Yukon College’s Working and Leading program. We’re excited to get to know him.

Joel Macht has stepped down as co-chair (though he will still be on our board) and Courtney Quinn has taken his place. Andrea Bailey will continue to as the other co-chair, as will Jessica Thiessen as treasurer and Lindsay Raftis as secretary. Stephanie Dixon and Michael Svoboda continue to serve as board members.

For those interested in getting a copy of our Annual General Report, swing by our office on Ogilvie Street or email communications@www.yukonyouth.com for a pdf.  We’re working on getting it online soon.

Thank you again to everyone who makes our work at BYTE possible: The board, staff, facilitators, funders, sponsors and the community at large. Here’s to another fantastic year.
