Future Routes PosterHow could we pass up an opportunity to bring amazing live music to Yukon College students, Whitehorse youth, and the community at large?

Answer: we couldn’t.

BYTE and the Yukon College are working together again this year to host another Future Routes Music Festival on Friday, September 12th, 2014 at the Yukon College. This year’s event is a one-night standalone event featuring incredible headliners, a community marketplace, food trucks, and more.

The night will kick off at 4pm with a bustling marketplace with some of your favourite local market stalls, food trucks, and a beer garden for those aged 19 +. Then Claire Ness will take the stage at around 5pm with a set to serenade you over the dinner hour. So come early after school, work, or class, and enjoy food, a drink, and some great music to get the night started.

TFH_Photo_DWe’re beyond excited to announce that The Funk Hunters are travelling up from Vancouver to headline for us. The Funk Hunters have been making waves at music festivals across North America for their groundbreaking combination of heavy electronic beats and classic funk and soul lines. Future Routes will be their first visit to Whitehorse, and they’ll be partnering with local part-time band member Daniel Ashley to create what’s sure to be an amazing show.

SarahbyAnnekeHymmenWe’re also excited to announce our local lineup, which features the Yukon’s best and brightest musicians. Sarah Macdougall, a Sweden native who now calls the Yukon home, has been gaining international recognition for her thoughtful, poetic songs. Sarah was recently the most-played artist on the Canadian Galexie Folk / Roots radio, and once you hear her set at Future Routes, you’ll understand why.

major funkYou may have heard some buzz around Major Funk and the Employment lately. They’re an up-and-coming Whitehorse band that’s bringing the infectious beats of funk and motown to stages around Whitehorse. Come prepared to dance: once you hear the band’s funky beats, it’ll be hard to keep your feet still.

Dead Simple’s back to play at Future Routes again this year. Alongside Zipline, a young rock band that will blow you away, they will represent just one small portion of the Yukon’s incredible youth talent at Future Routes.

Tickets to this year’s Future Routes are only $10 and are available at the door.
