We’re in the middle of putting the finishing touches on this year’s reports for our AGM on June 11th (hint hint, you should come!), and we thought we’d share with you a few of the facts and figures that we’ve dug up.

One of the main focuses for BYTE is the workshops that we do with rural youth in the Yukon and Northern Canada. To this end, each year we try to do as many community visits as possible. Last year, our tour numbers sky rocketed. In fact, they almost doubled: two years ago we went on 14 tours, and last year we headed out on a total of 25 – that’s more than two per month! As you can imagine we’re thrilled with these numbers.

The year started off with a bang, in April 2012 we visited Pelly, Carcross, Beaver Creek and Dawson City. Some highlights from the rest of the year include: presenting First Nation hip hop artists Reddnation with the Adaka Cultural Festival in June, visiting the awesome youth of Atlin a handful of times, spreading youth voice through the Whitehorse Youth Want campaign, travelling to Fort McPherson for the first time for a week of workshops, and hosting awesome events like Battle of the Bands and the Canada Day Skate Comp.

Increasing our web presence through storytelling and media has been another angle we’ve been working on.  At the start of the year we were hovering around 40,000 hits a month, and by the end of the year some months we’re getting 80,000 or 90,000. In November we even managed to get 112,883 hits!

Finally, a few figures top chew on from our 2012/2013 year:

Youth who participated in our workshops: 414

Days BYTE put on workshops: 35

Most popular workshops: Anti-bullying, Leadership, Healthy Relationships, Safe Partying

Average satisfaction rating: 87%

To learn more about what we do, we’d love to see you at our AGM June 11th. It takes place from 12-1 pm right here in our Whitehorse office, 2-407 Ogilvie Street. See you there!
