Two years ago, Vision Quest performed for the first time at BYTE’s Battle of the Bands. They’d formed only a week before the competition—but they won. Now, after spending the last two years growing into a big name in the Yukon’s hip-hop scene, they’re heading east!

Twenty-six year-old Nick Johnson and 23-year-old Yudii Mercredi will be touring to major cities in eastern Canada over the next month with Carsen Grey, Joey Stylez, and Winnipeg Boyz. They’ll be visiting Montreal, Toronto, Fredericton, Thunder Bay, Halifax, and Ottawa, as well as Kahnawake, QC, Elsipogtog, NB, Obedjiwan, QC, and Wikwemikong, ON.

Performing everywhere from nightclubs and colleges to community centres and packed powwows, Vision Quest hopes that this tour—called the Warrior Sun tour—will help get them the exposure they need to make it big outside of the Yukon.

“Being in the Yukon is kind of hard, because we’re so far away,” says Yudii. “We’re hoping to do lots of networking with producers and people who are high-end in the music industry who could help us out.”

Yudii is Vuntut Gwitch’in and Johnson is Kluane First Nations from Burwash Landing. They both rap about issues that young First Nations Yukoners can relate to. Check out their profile on Facebook, and check out Winnipeg Boyz to find out more about the tour.
