BYTE is excited to announce a special speaking event called “Conversations on Climate Change – Impacts of Climate Change” on Saturday, August 10th, 6 pm at Rah Rah Gallery. Featuring the youth from GrassRoutes Cycling and some local Whitehorse environmental organisations, it’s set to be a fascinating evening!

Who are GrassRoutes cycling you ask? They’re a team of 4 ambitious youth applying their passion to the pedal. They will be cycling from Vancouver to Inuvik with the goal to build a dialogue about environmental issues between youth in Northern and Southern Canada, and support existing sustainability initiatives in Northern Canada. They are currently on the road and will be arriving in Whitehorse on Friday, August 9th.

Allison Furniss, BYTE’s Whitehorse Outreach Coordinator will be joining the group on the ride from Whitehorse to Dawson City, where the group will also stop in Pelly Crossing to conduct a climate change workshop for youth. “I’m really excited for the GrassRoutes group to get to spend some time learning about how Climate Change is affecting the North and our communities in the Yukon. I’m looking forward to spending some quality time on the road with such inspirational youth!” They will all start riding to Dawson on Sunday, August 11th.

But before they go, we have an exciting event planned for Whitehorse! Called “Conversations on Climate Change – Impacts of Climate Change“, it will include a talk by the GrassRoutes crew and a facilitated conversation, in which everyone will be invited to share their own knowledge & experiences.

This speaking event and conversation is open to the public and we would further strongly encourage youth concerned with climate change and interested to hear about GrassRoutes inspiration and experiences to come join us!  Admission is by donation.
